IREX has announced a third Grants Competition to support
Crisis Centers for Women in Russia The goal of the project is
to strengthen Russian institutions that "provide crisis
counseling and legal services to victims of domestic violence,
that raise awareness of domestic violence issues among
specialists and the general public, and that promote
alternatives to violence." Applicants may request between
$1,000 to $10,000 in USAID funding for projects covering a
period of up to nine months. Proposals will be accepted at the

Project Harmony's Program for Internet Community Development
ICD in the Caucasus aims to develop two distinct online
communities -- one serving the development of small
businesses, the other serving organizations that aid refugees
and internally displaced persons. The program hopes to create
multi-language online resources such as: online newsletters;
discussion lists; e-mail conferences; interactive websites;
and online events such as web chats and teleconferences. For

NIS with the equivalent of a Masters degree "to conduct

The Oak Institute for the Study of International Human Rights at Colby
College (Maine) is soliciting nominations for the Oak Human Rights Fellowship for
the fall of 2001. The institute will favor applications from practitioners in the field of gender and international

in the Kursk accident in the Barents Sea. Two are managed by the state, two are connected to nongovernmental organizations with many years of experience in philanthropy, and

associated with NYU and the Public Health Research Institute (PHRI),
is a native of Russia and highly experienced in administering private aid
