The newly-formed Uyghur Human Rights Coalition is dedicated to "building a grassroots movement in the United States to protest the Chinese government's gross human rights violations against the indigenous Uyghurs of the Xinjiang region of China. We are particularly focused on mobilizing university students to take action to help the Uyghurs." During the coming fall semester, UHRC will be doing presentations at many universities around the country and trying to get student chapters of the Uyghur Human Rights Coalition established on college campuses. On August 11, the Coalition organized a demonstration in front of the Chinese embassy, co-sponsored with the Uyghur American Association, to demand that "the Chinese government immediately and unconditionally release" famous Uyghur businesswoman/political prisoner Rebiya Kadeer. August 11 was the one-year anniversary of her arrest.
For more information on the campaign to free Kadeer, go to: http://www.uyghurs.org/campaign-rebiya_kadeer.htm
