This is a description of various organizations (and their projects), involved in promoting exchange and collaboration among educators.
Organized in 1948, this is the world's largest student-managed, non-profit educationalorganization with activities in over 87 countries. Their focus is on the development of "individuals who can impact on society; we do this by involving people in unique exchange programmes and related projects". A number of Russian Universities belong to AIESEC.
The support of "women in their selfless and restless work in science and education in favorof Future of Russia, our children and grandchildren" is the goal of this nonprofit organization. This is done by uniting the devoted women in these fields and providing them a number of services and resources.
This is a consortium of institutions of higher learning formed to enhance the role of education in promoting democratic institutions, economic development including technology transfer, decentralized decision making, human health, sustainable habitation of the earth, and common moral and social values.
Founded in 1941, this organization's purpose is to "advance the study and promote he teaching of Slavic and East European languages, literatures, and cultures on all educational levels including elementary through graduate school. It not only focuses on Russian studies but on all languages, literatures, linguistics and cultures that are Slavic and East European .
Established in 1989 in response to the rapid changes occurring in education in the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe, it was formerly known as the Institute for the Study of Soviet Education, or ISSE. Among their many activities is the collection and dissemination of information about education in Russia and the NIS.
A not-for-profit organization established in 1993, AIE supports innovativeeducational methods including distance learning projects withuniversities such as the State University of New York (SUNY) and the use ofcomputer and telecommunications technologies for the integration ofRussian universities into the world education system.
Founded in Europe, this institute assists Americans "to enter the international arena through teach and work programs offered globally". The promotion of global education is accomplished by the placement of Americans overseas who then "link foreigners to the world's great knowledge providers". In addition to a "Global Learn Day", they also provide a listing of jobs overseas and distance learning resources.
With a variety of programs, this international, nongovernmental, nonprofit organization provides opportunities to help those of all ages gain the knowledge, skills, and, most importantly, the understanding of those of other cultures. This US nonprofit organization, with offices in Washington, DC and Moscow, Russia, represents interests and services of libraries, information centers, and scholar and academic institutions of Russia and other countries of the former USSR on the American market. The other objective of the Center is to facilitate the access of American users to scientific, technological, legal, business, and other types of information in Russia and the CIS. Searchable databases of Russian books and periodicals are available on this web site.
A joint project of Brown University and the Institute for Space Research (IKI) of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Russian Link provides two-way video-conferencing between Moscow, Russia and nationwide US sites in order to further academic, scientific, and government exchange through a low-cost communications link.
The Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE) located in Ottawa, Canada is dedicated exclusively to international education. The Centre for Central and Eastern Europe (CCEE) section of CBIE specializes in projects in Ukraine, but also has projects in Poland and Russia.
A divisional activity of GLObal Systems Analysis and Simulation Association in the U.S.A. (GLOSAS/USA), seeks to improve the quality and availability of international educational exchange through the use of telecommunication and information technologies.
A not-for-profit cultural and educational exchange organization which develops and supports a wide variety of elementary, secondary, university level and professional exchange programs between the USA, Central Europe, the Baltics and NIS. Their Internet School Linkage Program, which matches US high schools with schools in the NIS, is described along with their other programs and accomplishments.
This private voluntary organization is dedicated to supporting higher education reform and democratic education in the states of Central/Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union. By assisting in the process of educational reform, CEP is performing a valuable function by helping to strengthen the foundations upon which democracy can thrive in an open society.
This non-profit charitable organization is active in educational support tocountries in the former Communist bloc. They are involved in a number ofareas including the donation of learning materials since 1986. This ongoing activity hasprovided almost 3 million books, journals, videos and CD-ROMs to thousandsof institutions and countless students, scientists, scholars, researchers,medical professionals, lawmakers etc. in the 16 countries it serves inEastern Europe , the fSU and other transitional nations. The Library and InformationTechnology Services project (formerly TAP) provides electronicinformation tools and skills for their overseas constitutents. Initiativesinvolve different forms of Internet training, on-going referencing,information technology in library development in addition totelecommunications/Internt related equipment and books for selectedinstitutions.
Although NOT an official Phystech WWW site, this initiative of 10-15 students and ex-students of Moscow Institute for Physics and Technology (MIPT) was developed to recall the history, culture and folklore of their institute.
