In 1993, the Swedish municipality of Ronneby decided to increase the community's use of information technology. Dubbed "2003," material about the original vision may be found at this site. Today there is a 20 km fiber optic network in Ronneby, connecting high-tech companies with the university, the town hall, and local school and libraries. Student housing is also wired. According to information on the site, "The backbone is built with ATM 155 Mbps links, which will be upgraded to 622 Mbps in a close future." Numerous library, education, and health projects are active and are described in detail.
