Although English is the dominant language of the WWW, many cultures are carving out web sites and rings of servers dedicated to information in regional and local languages. One of the most active groups are in the Catalan language of Spain. Barcelona is the main city, and VilaWeb, formerly called InfoPista, is a good example of the effort being made to aggregate web pages and local information for particular cultures. Not only is there information for many towns in Catalonia but also for Catalan communities in New York, Boston, and Los Angeles. The directory now contains more than 10,000 URLs and seems to be well maintained. Different sections include the square, the library, the newsstand, and the auditorium.
