"Voronezh Civil Network"

March, 2001

Organizational activities

  • Voronezh Civnet continued to work with the editorial office of Voronezh State Television and Radio Company. In March, the project officers made two more radio programs providing coverage of activities under the project.
  • The project officers have been briefing the regional mass media on the upcoming on-line interview (March 6 at 6.p.m.) of the president Vladimir Putin with journalists from Russian and foreign on-line magazines and newspapers. The project officers offered to use the Main PAP facility to the journalists and citizens of Voronezh in order to send their questions for the president in advance through the site http://www.strana.ru, thus participating in the first on-line interview of the President.
  • One of our radio programs helped us to get know Margarita Goryainova, the director of the Opera Studio at the Municipal Children's Performing Arts School 4. She came to us with a request for assistance. In her Opera Studio, Margarita Goryainova works with children from 10 to 15 years, who perform in concerts and operas with vast enthusiasm, thus embodying plans of the great composers and poets in musical performances for children. The young artists performances are always a big success in the city. They perform at schools, summer camps, and on the radio). Margarita Goryainova asked the project officers to publish information about the Opera Studio on the network and assist in the search for sponsors for organization of tours, outreach activities, and concerts of the opera studio collective.
  • The project officers held a meeting with the director of Voronezh Regional Affiliation of the All-Russian Childhood Foundation". In the course of the meeting, the participants discussed and came to an agreement on: the structure of the mini web site for this organization, the content of the information, which will be presented in running string of the Civnets bulletin board.
  • We have received a letter of appreciation from Victoria Razumova, who is now living in the USA, sincerely thanking Voronezh Civnet for their work. She reviewed a personal page, which has recently been put together and published on the VCN server. Victoria says that she and all her friends liked the page very much.
  • Stanislav Filatov, a writer from a village Ternovka, heard one of our radio programs and came to us, hoping to find support in publication of his books. Stanislav Filatov started to write when he lost both of his legs as a result of the serious illness. He says he was driven by the desire to survive. For the 10 years of hard work, a decade-long path of doubts and findings, he has written seven books, two of which were published in Moscow (twenty thousand copies each). Stanislav Filatov lives in a small place in Russian province and he moves about in his wheeled chair. All this creates additional difficulties in connections with the publishers, and, consequently, with the publication of his works.
Now the Civnets project officers are looking for the publishing houses, which will agree to publish Filatovs works. We also have designed and published his personal web page on the VCN server.
  • The informational materials have been developed about the project and its achievements to be exhibited and distributed at the regional exhibition, which was organized within the framework of the conference of universities and colleges-members of the "Chernozemye" Association (6.03.2001). The photos, taken at the exhibition, are provided with the report.
