    Anne Beamish submitted her thesis to the Department of Urban Studies and Planning at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1995. This was done in pursuit of a Master's degree in City Planning.

  • Community Networks: Building Real Communities in a Virtual Space? *

    Neil K. Guy wrote this thesis in 1991 which examines a number of community networks in British Columbia, Canada in 1991.

  • Public Spaces on the Information Highway: The Role of Community Networks *

    This Andrew Avis's thesis (1995) explores the phenomenon of community networking in Canada, particularly as it impacts the issue of universal access to emerging broadband networks.

  • U.S. COMMUNITY NETWORKS AND THE SERVICES THEY OFFER *

    The study written by Lawrence Hecht uses a survey to examine the relationship between community network characteristics and services offered. The study supports previously conducted case studies that identified management characteristics, funding sources, and partnerships as keys to a network's success. The study finds that the most useful networks receive funding from multiple sources. It also finds the quality of local information and training provided is related to the network's management structure.

    Indra Kurzeme's master thesis about the development of community networks in Australia.

  • A Cross-Cultural Comparison of Community Computer Networks *

    Kristin Surak's thesis examines the groups that establish community networks and the influence of the federal governments policies upon their development. Conclusions were obtained with the use of questionnaire data that focused on the variations of community networks differ between the US, Canada and Australia.
