Russian version of System 7

I DO NOT RECOMMEND USING Russian System, USE Russian Script INSTEAD

Russian System 7.0.1 is freely available from Apple. Everything looks and feels exactly the same as in the English version, except the menus and dialog boxes are all in Russian. Even the startup greeting "Welcome to Macintosh" is in Russian! If you are an adventurous type and think it would be a neat experience to see what a Russian system looks like, go ahead and try booting your Mac from Russian version of the Disk Tools floppy (a part of the set of system installation disks). I am assuming here that your Mac is one of those that doesn't mind System 7.0.1 -- sorry, PowerMac owners! However, before installing Russian System on your Mac, be sure to check with vendors of your software about compatibility questions - most programs will not like the Russian system very much.

To get Russian System 7 you can connect to Apple's anonymous FTP server at FTP.APPLE.COM and download a complete set of installation disks. Be warned, the site is not very reliable and is frequently unavailable.

Note: The dts subdirectory at ftp.apple.com is back! - it disappeared for a while, but apparently good folks at Apple decided to make our lives a bit easier again. 11/07/95
