The conference for the NGO community of Southern Russia "Networking - key to success" was held on June 10, 1997 in Krasnodar. The initiator of the event, Krasnodar Regional Community Foundation "Resource Center" (KRC), had gathered leaders of 20 non-profit organizations from the Krasnodar and Stavropol regions. The sponsor of the conference was the Kuban Youth Union.

Program of the conference:

The conference brought together leaders of non-profit organizations with different experience, background, skills, and goals of their activities. Nevertheless, its main theme - strong networking among NGOs - was understood as the primary goal to be reached by non-profit organizations of the region through collective planning and implementation of activities, supporting development of non-profit community. The long-term goal for these NGOs is the creation of a viable and sustainable network of organizations to promote the ideas of civil society and economic reforms in Russia.

One of the topics brought up at the conference was development of steady working relationship with representatives of the for-profit sector (on local, national and international levels). The purpose of such dialogues are seen in cooperative design and implementation of projects critical to present economic and political situation in Russia, promotion of the idea of corporate sponsorship and individual donations to non-profit programs, important to community where the businesses operate.

As a result, the participants came up with a working plan of KRC as a leading coordinating force, uniting non-profits of the region, providing NGOs with expertise in the areas of non-profit legal counseling, finance management and taxation, fundraising and grantsmanship, social marketing, mass media, advocacy and computer competence. The emphasis needs to be put on practical use of western and Russian methods and techniques in non-profit and for-profit development in the area.
