Liberty of thought means liberty to communicate one's thought. - Salvador de Madariaga

There is always one moment in childhood when the door opens and lets the future in. - Graham Greene

Some of these holidays, such as Thanksgiving and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s birthday, are unique to the United States while others may also celebrated in other countries. Here we will attempt to show the traditions observed in America.

  • The Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s Birthday

A Nobel Peace Prize winner, Dr. King was born on January 15, 1929, and is honored on the third Monday of every January for his work for equality, justice, the end of poverty and civil rights for all through nonviolent means.

  • Valentine's Day

Celebrated in many countries, Valentine's Day in the United States is a day for those in love and close friends. Children also celebrate by exchanging cards and having parties at school.

  • St. Patricks Day

A national holiday in Ireland, it is not recognized as thus in the US but is still still celebrated with a number of traditions including parades, the wearing of green, the drinking of "green" beer and more on March 17th.
