Project Activities

Within the framework of the project, not only tasks of information accumulation
and interchange may be fulfilled, but also active practical action, focusing
on improvement of living environment of Voronezh people is possible.
Together with the radiostation "Range" (Voronezh Television and Radio
Company) the participants of the project discussed one ecological problem
of urban environment safety with regards to Voronezh downtown parks around
the Municipal House of Officers. Currently, cutting down park trees in
order to clear the land for the subsequent construction, is suspended and
appropriate park protection regulations are being discussed by the administration
officials. We are proud that we were able to make a contribution to the
preservation of the city environment. Thus, maintaining healthy environment
in the city is partly assisted by us.

The project officers conducted a number of meetings with the representatives
of Voronezh Regional Educational Advising Center. The sides arrived to
an agreement on the arrangement of the Internet public access point on
the basis of Voronezh Regional Educational Advising Center. This organization
has been chosen to house a public access point because their goals well
coincide with those of Voronezh Civil Network. Voronezh Regional Educational
Advising Center (VREAC) was founded in September, 1997 in direct response
to the increased interest to the international education opportunities.
The Center was established to guide and advise students. The Center is
free and open to public. The Center's audience includes high school seniors,
undergraduate and graduate university students, school and university teaching
specialists, scholars, and others interested in degree studies and professional
internships in the US. The plans for cooperation with them were discussed
and the organizational and technical basis for connecting them to the network
and organization of the public access point is set up.

With the purpose of extending of our international contacts and public
discussions, our representatives have taken part in the seminar (July 19
- 23) with the delegation of Christian youth from the city of Kremnitz
(Germany). The perspectives of interaction between youth organizations
of Germany and our city were discussed with information support of our
network.
Formation of an informational technical infrastructure

Through the lines of non-switchable access in a dial-up mode NGO Voronezh
Regional Educational Advising Center was connected to the network. Necessary
preparatory works were carried out, including those of modem and software
adjustment.

Continuation of collecting and processing data for filling the server "Voronezh
Civil Network"(http://vcn.vorstu.ac.ru)

The new section "Bodies of Authority and Management" was formed and consists
of the following units:
"Administration of the City", "Administration of Voronezh region",
"Projects and Initiatives". The unit "Projects and Initiatives" is weekly
updated and added to. The following are updated daily: "News of the Region",
"Regional Publications", "News of Public Life", "Board of Announcements".
Central Public Access Facility's Work

This month, as well as during all previous months, the full range of our
services within the framework of the project has been provided to our visitors
free of charge. A consulting service and web workshop continued to function.

At the request of the librarians, the project officers organized and carried
out the additional cycle of training for those librarians who serve the
internet class, located at Regional Juvenile Library.

The scheduled training sessions for two groups, approx. 30 participants,
were carried out also.
