"Samara Civic Networking"

January-February,2000



Within the framework of a technical and humanitarian part of the project "Samara Civic Network" for the accounting period the following works were carried out :

  • The channel of connection SCN to the Internet from Samara to Moscow is extended in 2 times;
  • New Internet-access class was opened at HECA "Povolzje" ( Leninskaya str. 137). It has 6 computers with an access to Internet. There was held an official opening ceremony of this class. This public access point is opened for NGO of Samara and Samara region, it works from 9.00 a.m. till 10.00 p.m.
  • From January, 11, a "Computer technologies for the nonprofit sector" school began its work. Two courses : "Computer Competence" and "Internet from the zero" are conducted in this school. The estimated period of training is 12 hours. Each group of trainees consists of 6 persons. We edited school manual and gave it to trainees. By this date we have trained 6 groups (26 persons, 18 - woman, 8 men) from 15 nonprofit organizations of Samara region.
  • The creation of "Budget of Samara region. Guidebook on the budget" site was finished not so long ago. One can see this site at Samara Civic Network server early in march 2000�.
  • There was continued the development of information resources "Folk of Russia on the territory an Samara region", " Samara. Etnos And culture", "Religious card of Samara region", "Calendar of ethnics, ethno-religious, ethnics and civil holidays of Russia".
  • The first stage of Internet public survey concerning to the problems of Samara region by name "Wonna to live better - let's try..." is over. More than 100 persons took part in this action. All the results of questioning were given to sociologists for an analysis and further recommendations for the second stage of Internet-survey.

  • We connected 5 nonprofit organizations and 3 private citizens via dial-up access lines.
  • In Samara technical university the public access class (10 workplaces) is opened every day on weekdays from 4.00 p.m. till 8.00 p.m. The staff of University provided normal functioning of a class and consultations to users. The technical support of users both by the phone and with departure of the expert on a place of connection was organized.
  • Within the framework of the project there was prepared a lot of information resources. These resources can be interesting both to the users of a Civic network, and to other Internet users . One can find the information about the third sector, history, culture, ethnography of region at our server.
  • The users now can actively create own resources as hypertext of the documents describing sphere of activity of noncommercial organization;
