Obninsk Civic Networking
April, 2000.

1. In the end of March - beginning of April a meeting of experts of the IPPE and OK_Club with Mr. Howard Kerr - the employee of the ORNL and Oak Ridge representative in the Tennessee parliament - took place. After discussion an agreement was achieved concerning joint activities to be performed aimed to include Obninsk to MIRNET program and organization of remote experiments on ORNL and IPPE unique research installations. Mr. Kerr took upon himself an obligation to organize an appropriate letter from ORNL with an official offer on joint works.

2. On April 5 Yurii Koftan made the presentation "Methodical Aspects of the Development of Curriculums and Tests for Remote Training " at the All-Russia seminar "Information Technologies for Management of Education Quality and Development of Education", Moscow.

3. A seminar "Obninsk Civil Network" was held in Obninsk on April 8. The event was designed for NGOs. Sixteen organizations participated in the seminar. One of the results - we start forming the groups from NGO's representatives to train them how to work in Internet.

4. Middle of April - The "Eureka" Center was connected to Internet. The organization of public access poit for pupils is started.

5. April 24. The project leader - Yuri Koftan - told about the OCN project to the radio "Obninsk". Broadcasting was organized the same day.

6. April 22-23. The OK_Club and several more organizations carried out a competition "Computer - 2000" among the young people under 25 years. The competition was conducted in 3 nominations:

  • "olympiada",
  • competition of own works,
  • competition of works under the task.
The winner - R. Ignatenko (student of Obninsk Institute of Nuclear Power Engineering - got a special prize computer "Pentium".

7. April 27. A seminar "Obninsk Civic Network" was carried out for municipal. Fourteen municipal organizations participated. The formation of groups for training and creation of information resources was started.
8. Public access center in OK_Club (computer class of the Internet cafe):
