Obninsk Civic Network
December, 2000

By December 31 the OCN includes 20 not-for-profit organizations and 136 citizens.
On December 4 the solemn opening of the Obninsk Civic Network took place in OK_Club. The total number of participants was about 100. Among them there were

-representatives of the local authority bodies: Gennady Artemyev � Chairman, Obninsk City Council, Alla Prosvirkina � member, Obninsk City Council, Oleg Luksha � Director, Science and International Relations Dept. of Obninsk City Administration;
-representatives of city organizations, including those who took active part in the program: �Community�, �Municipal Informatics�, �OCIC�, �Maxnet Systems�, Obninsk Fund of Scientific-Technical, Innovative and Creative Activity of Russian Youth and other city organizations;
-representatives of local media, volunteers, citizens.

In December the competition �Computer �01� was announced
On December 26 there wasan organizational meeting of a new civic movement �Computer to School�. The Coordination Council of the new movement was elected. This Council will act as one of the OCN Committees. The members of the Coordination Council are:

    The first task of the Coordination Council is the development of a program to help in supplying schools with computers and the development of the �Concept of Informatization of City Schools�.

On December 20 an organizational meeting took place (in OK_Club) for a new not-for-profit organization designed to support and develop (1) civic leadership initiatives and programs for training community leaders and (2) international relations of the local community including sister city partnership. The official registration of the organization is planned for January 2001. The new organization will closely cooperate with the OCN.

The PAC in the Center of Scientific-Technical and Aesthetical Education of Pupils was opened at last. It is oriented to work with schoolchildren.

  • In December 2 groups of representatives of not-for-profit organizations started studying �Fundamentals of Internet� in OK_Club.
