Chelyabinsk Civic Networking (CCN)

On May 26 we have finished a free training course for NGO staff. They have received basic skills of work in Internet and web design. The course was held in center "Internet for everyone" (http://openweb.ccn.org.ru/) and lasted for 2.5 months (four hours per week). It included lectures as well as practical work on computers that was connected to the Internet and had all necessary software for creating web pages.

The students have mastered in board outline HTML, took overview of JavaScript, CGI and CSS. They have also made themselves familiar with various software: Macromedia Dreamweaver, Adobe ImageStyler and ImageReady, Xara Web Styler, and program-clients for FTP, email, etc. They had opportunity to experiment with creating their personal pages, with mailing lists, robots and email gateways [email protected] and [email protected].

We have recorded and shared among the students CDs with freeware and shareware programs that are helpful for webmaster: utilities, editors and image optimizers, browsers and so forth.

Several organizations, e.g. "Sodeystvie" and "Detstvo", are going to launch their own home pages on CCN web site (http://www.ccn.org.ru/) just after finishing the training. In addition some participants wish to continue their studying in fall of 2000.

Here I would like to commend two my coworkers Elena Mitlosh and Galina Korepanova who are real professionals having wide experience, excellent pedagogical abilities and patience in work with students.
