Chelyabinsk Civic Networking (CCN)
April, 2000

Sometimes you can see certain passiveness among staff of local NGO. Enlivening comes only when next grant competition is announced or they are offered to get something interesting and free of charge at the same time, e.g. studying. The last thing is especially actual as long as networking skill level of the most of these persons is still insufficient.

Just these two points were basic ones for our activity in April. First of all CCN mailing list continued its work. The list serves for sharing news of foundations, resource centers, etc. At present it has 25 subscribers, as organizations so individuals,  who often forwarded received information farther all over the Ural region.

I guest CCN list is more full and open as well as cover larger audience than it makes by some organizations in Chelyabinsk such as Association of social societies and others that have status =of information centers.

In the middle of Mart we launched free courses for NGO people who wish to learn using Internet services and Web design. The classes were also in April. They are held in center "Internet for Everyone",  twice a week. Now 12-14 students attend these studies and they look very interested. The main "suppliers" of students are "Women of 90th", "Sodeystvie", independent newspapers and youth information agencies. The center has 12 computers so the theory goes with practice very well. The courses will operate till the end of May.

One of important field of our activity is involving people with disabilities in networking community.
In April CCN center provided free dial-up connections for Natalia Potapova (she has got also a modem), Pavel Popov and Dasha Zhukova that was taught by our specialist.
