We were a smaller group of the West Plains High School Concert Choir, Directed by Kelly Dame and David Hall. I found the Romanian people to be warm and loving to our music and to us in general. I made several friends, some of which I believe will last a lifetime. We had prepared two songs in Romanian: "Fata de Pastor", which is a children's song about a coo-koo bird, and "Cantec de Pace," a Song of Peace. The reactions of the audiences I will never forget. While the children's song brought laughs and memories of childhood, the Song of Peace brought tears and possibly memories of a revolution that happened only a few short years ago. I will cherish the few days I had in the beautiful country of Romania, and will forever remember the universal language which brought us together; we all understood music. I just found your website and I am delighted! I have been searching the web for over 18 months looking for information about Maramures County, specifically Sighetu Marmatiei. I hope that I will find specific and detailed information about that area of Romania. My mother was born there in 1904 and was the only member of her family to immigrate to the U.S. in 1924. I am attempting to obtain her birth record as well as the vital records of my grandparents and greatgrandparents, etc. To date, I have had no luck. It is my hope that your website can be of assistance in this endeavor. I'm sure that there are thousands of people who would like to do this same type of genealogical research in Romania. I was successful in obtaining records from the National Archives of Hungary as well as local church parishes in Hungary for my father's family. I would like to be able to accomplish the same for my mother's family. I have many cousins living in Romania, but they have not been able to help me with this research and they do not seem to have any firsthand knowledge of our ancestors. If there is anything you or your friends can do to facilitate genealogical research, please try. Successful searches of this kind would greatly increase the tourism to Romania. I just returned from the beautiful country of Romania where I was on tour with my choir, The Plains Singers. We were a smaller group of the West Plains High School Concert Choir, Directed by Kelly Dame and David Hall. I found the Romanian people to be warm and loving to our music and to us in general. I made several friends, some of which I believe will last a lifetime. We had prepared two songs in Romanian: "Fata de Pastor", which is a children's song about a coo-koo bird, and "Cantec de Pace," a Song of Peace. The reactions of the audiences I will never forget. While the children's song brought laughs and memories of childhood, the Song of Peace brought tears and possibly memories of a revolution that happened only a few short years ago. I will cherish the few days I had in the beautiful country of Romania, and will forever remember the universal language which brought us together; we all understood music.

Greetings, I traveled to Romania in 1997 and plan a return trip soon. I found the country be very beautiful. It is a mysterious place in the hearts and minds of the western world. I just found your website and I am delighted! I have been searching the web for over 18 months looking for information about Maramures County, specifically Sighetu Marmatiei. I hope that I will find specific and detailed information about that area of Romania. My mother was born there in 1904 and was the only member of her family to immigrate to the U.S. in 1924. I am attempting to obtain her birth record as well as the vital records of my grandparents and greatgrandparents, etc. To date, I have had no luck. It is my hope that your website can be of assistance in this endeavor. I'm sure that there are thousands of people who would like to do this same type of genealogical research in Romania. I was successful in obtaining records from the National Archives of Hungary as well as local church parishes in Hungary for my father's family. I would like to be able to accomplish the same for my mother's family. I have many cousins living in Romania, but they have not been able to help me with this research and they do not seem to have any firsthand knowledge of our ancestors. If there is anything you or your friends can do to facilitate genealogical research, please try. Successful searches of this kind would greatly increase the tourism to Romania. I am so excited to find this site. I met a troupe of Romanian folkdancers and musicians from Cluj-Napoca a year ago when they finished their U.S. tour with a performance in Kansas City. We had the pleasure of visiting them a little longer since their stay was extended an extra day due to their bus breaking down. I must say as a result of my visit with them, I have become enamored of the Romanian people, music, culture, language, and fascinated with the possibility of visiting what must be a truly beautiful and pristine country! I am currently trying to learn to speak the language althouth it is difficult on one's own with only books and tapes....
I would like to strongly sugges to Friends and Partners the possibility of starting a Romanian chat room similar to the Russian-American chat room already in existence, which I visit all too regularly. The R-A chat room that you have developed is without any doubt the best chat room I have ever visited....There is truly a spirit of international brotherhood and friendship and love that is very strong in that room. It is not limited to just Russians and Americans, but is visited by people from all over the world.
I have tried visiting other Romanian chat rooms, and while I have in general found the Romanian people I have come in contact with in various situations to be genuinely warm, friendly, interesting, and loving people, I must say that the Romanian chat rooms I have visited have at best been uninterested in me, at worst downright mean and hateful to someone not of their language and culture butting in. I know an endeavor on the part of F & P would not have results like this....

It's great to see so much activity and interest
in Romanian culture. Anyone who has visited the
country know of the beauty of the landscape and
the spirit of the people. I'm glad I found you.
I run a non-profit program that sends people
interested in teaching English and other subjects
to Romanian public schools. The program is called
the Central European Teaching Program, and gives
people the chance to have a long term living
experience in Romania while performing a needed
task: language instruction.
It's good to know that such a forum for healthy
exchange of ideas exists on the web. I wish everyone

I enjoyed your web site. I visited Sibiu, Romania during the month of July and had such a wonderful experience. The people are so warm and friendly. I will be returning again next year. Right now I am trying to learn the language and am having a very difficult time finding a good dictionary. When I was in Sibiu, I found a good dictionary but didn't have my money with me at that time, so I didn't buy it. I tried to find it here in the States with no luck. While in Romania I also visited some of the villages nearby (Slimnic, Rosia, Nou, Talmaciu) as well as the more touristy locations (Brasov, Timisoara, Hunedoara, Sinia). I had a wonderful time in Romania and can't wait to return!
