Geographical and climatic characteristics of Sourthern Siberia are favorable for recreational activities and tourism (famous
Lake Baikal, Sayany Mountains, Altai Mountains).
A two week tour to
Gornyi Altai organized by the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography of the Siberian Division of the Russian Academy of Sciences includes several helicopter excursions to the most interesting places and historical memorials of Altai. Tourists will see
excavations of burial moulds of the Bronze Age and Early Middle Ages, rock paintings of primitive men. They will spend several days at the Plateau Ukok and on the banks of the Teletskoe Lake. The institute owns a tourist
hotel that consists of separate comfortable cottages. A cozy restaurant with a bar, Russian bath house, fishing in a mountain river is at your service.
17th century Russian church. This church was originally constructed between
1670/1720 in "Zashivesk", was situated dy the Indigirka River. It was rebuilt in Novosibirsk (Academgorodok) in 1991.
