The demonstrative exposition of DataBase

The hypertext database now includes descriptions of 10 from 300 objects from the collection of the Sudanese National Museum, destinated to be published in the form of a catalogue "Gods of the Kingdom of Kush" composed by Eleonora Kormysheva and Hasan Hussein Idris.The total DB is available on CD. The project was carried out within the bounds of the joint Russian-Sudanese project of the publication of items kept in the Sudanese National Museum, Khartoum. The patron of the project is prof. Jean Leclant, the Permanent Secretary of the Academie des Inscriptions et Belles-Lettres, France. The sponsor of the project - The International Fund of Michela Schiff-Giorgini. Director of the project is Dr. Eleonora Kormysheva. The work in the Museum connected with the preparation of the catalogue was carried out in collaboration with the General Secretary of the National Corporation of Sudanese Antiquities and Museums, Dr. Hasan Hussein Idris. Authors express the thanks to Tatyana Timkova, who paid great contribution in preparing data for computer publication.

The presented collection includes stelae, statues, offering tables, amulets, ornaments, boxes for keeping jeweley, rings, beads, armrings - objects with the images of gods or divine symbols. The collection includes objects kept in the museum, regarding gods of Meroitic Kingdom from the VIIIth cent. BC - IVth cent. AD.

The description of the objects is given according to the recommendations of the International Board of Museums concerning the description of different categories of museum items. For each of the published objects is given the detailed commentary, translation and extensive bibliography.
