INFONOR - The Society in Support of the Native Peoples of the North and Far East of the Russian Federation - was set up to focus more attention on the situation of native peoples in Russia. Their economic situation, especially after the breakdown of the infrastructure of Russia, is severely critical. Their cultural basis is dwindling rapidly. Therefore NGOs, governments and international institutions must take action now.INFONOR was founded in reply to several appeals from representatives of native peoples from the marginal regions of Russia. The people behind INFONOR - anthropologists, linguists, health workers and others - have a long history of working with peoples of these areas.
INFONOR will concentrate its efforts in the following fields:
- Publishing a Scandinavian language newsletter 'INFONOR' focusing on native peoples in Russia. Please send us your newsletters and pass on relevant information to us!
- Lobbying legislative structures in order to direct aid money to projects in poverty areas in Russia in order to help native peoples make a living and preserve their culture.
- INFONOR is basing its efforts on direct and equal co-operation with organisations and individual representatives of the native peoples of the North and Far East of Russia and also wishes to develop a network of those outside Russia who pursue the same goals.
