To Promote and Protect Women's Human Rights: A Handbook of Mobilization Strategies for Women's NGOs was written in response to requests from women's NGOs in Central and Eastern Europe to the VOICE International Information Clearinghouse for detailed "how-to" information. They wanted to know the techniques and strategies used by women in the West to participate in public life and affect public policy.

The "Promote and Protect" handbook includes techniques and strategies for effectively designing and implementing advocacy activities, relations with the media, getting women elected to political office, conducting research for public policy and public education campaigns. Based on the experience of U.S. women's organizations, the style is generic so that the information can be adapted to the circumstances and political conditions of other countries.

Although it was written for women's NGOs in Eastern Europe, it should be useful to women's NGOs in all countries in transition as well as groups involved in the political process in the U.S. We recommend it as a self-education tool for individual readers and for a resource, reference and source of ready handout materials for training sessions in any of the subjects it covers. Available from VOICE International.$28 plus $3.50 for shipping and handling. We do not accept credit cards. Please made checks payable to VOICE International
