USIA's RPO is funded by the Office of East European and NIS Affairs to provide services and products to 33 Posts in the region. RPO offers a catalog, 1995 List of Publications in Translation, which lists "pamphlets and books on democracy, market economics, aspects of civl society, United States historyr, geography, economics, politics and society." The number of publications translated into Russian and other languages of the NIS is considerable. To obtain the catalog, contact the RPO in Vienna.

Separately, USIA has for a number of years also operated a Book Translation Program, under which the agency partially subsidizes the translation and printing of a range of American books by an in-country publishing house. More than 75 titles that have been translated into Russian or other languages of the NIS. (Book translation programs exist not only for Russia but also Armenia, Kazakstan and Ukraine.)

Some print runs have numbered 50,000 copies or more. For help in obtaining a list of titles in translation and their publishers, contact any USIS officer at a U.S. embassy in the NIS.
