Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs
USIA's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs prepares an annual report to inform Congress, institutions in the public and private sectors, and interested individuals of the status of U.S.-government funded exchange activity. The report summarizes the work of roughly 23 federal departments and agencies that conduct international exchange and training programs. It includes descriptions of over 100 programs involving more than 105,000 exchange participants, and costing $1.4 billion in federal funding. Among the programs described is the Citizen Exchanges Program, which coordinated the NIS Secondary School Initiative, under which 5,500 high school students were ex-changed in FY1993"the largest youth exchange ever attempted."The Report gives the names and telephone numbers of officials to contact in reference to each particular program.
