Erk was founded in Tashkent in 1990 making it one of the first democratic parties ever established in Uzbekistan. The party was declared illegal in 1993 and its leaders driven into exile.Friends of Erk Democratic Party was formed in The Netherlands and the group has now created this Web site which contains information about Erk and about the general human rights situation in Uzbekistan.
