Association of Uzbekistan for Sustainable Development of Water Resources (AUSWRD)

In 1996, group of Independent experts From 5 Central Asian countries was invited by Dr.Mirzaev, the honorable professor of Uzbekistan. In two meetings the group worked out the Common Strategy of Water Distribution for Aral Sea region. From that time the group of water specialists from different organizations have had ideas to create the permanent organization for water specialists. In 1998 this group had first meeting at the International Information Center (IIC)- the Tashkent Institute of Engineers for Irrigation and Agricultural Mechanization (TIEIAM) and Resource Exchange International Inc. (USA, non-goverenmental, humanitarian organization) joint project. Dale Henry, the Director of IIC was invited as the consultant. The group determined that most of their interests are common. Most participants supported the idea to create the organization, which will gather the water specialists. The group decided to make the meetings regularly. In the second meeting the group decided to create steering Committee. Dale Henry informed the Group about the non-governmental organization (NGO). The 7 members of steering Committee participated in the Counterpart Consortium (USIDS) organized seminars for developing NGO in the July-August, 1998. From September, 1998 to July 1999 the meeting of Steering Committee was regular, they adopted the mission and vision statements, by Low of new organization. In May 1999 the Chairman of Steering Committee Iskandar Abdullaev received Grant from International Research and, Exchanges Board (IREX) for conducting research on subject: The Water NGO in USA and their experience. Grant will paid by US Information Agency (USIA). The vision of AUSWRD: �To see Uzbekistan in 21 Century as example of Sustainable Water use�.
