The Pridneprovie Cleaner Production Center was established in 1994 as a joint initiative of the Pridneprovie Ecological Foundation and the International Academy of Computer Sciences and Systems. The center is an association of enterprises, organizations, scientists and specialists committed to environmental protection and the need for more environmentally responsible industrial equipment and standards. It offers educational programs and training to students, scientists, and engineers in the development of resource-saving, environmentally safe production techniques for such industries as metallurgy, chemicals, and power generation. The center organizes regular meetings with representatives of local environmental groups and promotes environmental protection in the local press. In cooperation with the Journalists' Union, the center recently held a competition for the best publication on the environment. The center is also establishing an Environmental Education Center to train industry specialists and farming associations. In 1998, the center began publishing a monthly magazine, Constructive Ecology and Business, which focuses on constructive ways to decide environmental issues in industry and agriculture within the context of a market economy.
