YCUN works to facilitate the "consolidation of Ukrainian patriotic youth organizations." The organization was formed in June 1998, and it held its first summer camp in August near Ternopil, attended by 15 Ukrainian youth organizations. In October 1998 the first national convention of YCUN was held in Kyiv.YCUN's current activities focus on (1) ecological actions against the building of the Tashlyk Hydro Power Station on the South Bug river, and (2) the startup of its new magazine, Ukrainian Problems. YCUN claims to have offices in every regional center (25 cities) and in 254 smaller towns. There are about 5,000 members in the congress, and its budget for 1998 was about 7,000 hryvnia (approximately US$3,000).
YCUN partners wirh 19 organizations in Ukraine and five Ukrainian diaspora organizations in Russia, Europe, the U.S., and Canada.
