PO Box 250093, Columbia University Station, New York,
The purpose of USA/USA is to recruit and advise a select number of Ukrainian students who are considering pursuing an American college education and
capable of winning a full four year college scholarship. Tens of Ukrainian students apply to USA/USA each year by submitting a free essay and an essay
of purpose, and a biography all written in English, recommendations from both a teacher and a friend, high school transcripts, and a personal photo.
Applicants are also required to describe a project with reference to Ukraine that they would implement while studying in America. All applicants are
tested in English and interviewed in their regional center. Ten students are then invited to attend a two week workshop in Ukraine. USA/USA hosts the
week-long workshop, which explains the U.S. educational system to the students and gives them information on the TOEFL, SAT I, and SAT II tests.
Students are advised on how to choose a college, complete applications, apply for fee waivers and compete for scholarships. If students are unable
to obtain fee waivers, USA/USA will provide the necessary funding. The selected students choose the universities and colleges,
and then they fill out and send in their own applications.
