The league was established in 1993 by members of the youth wing of Zeleny Svit, the Ukrainian Council of Student Groups for Environment Protection, and the Kyiv Eco-Cultural Center. It claims to be the only national, youth environmental organization in Ukraine. It promotes biodiversity protection and technology for "environmentally clean" products and runs education projects to involve youth in the environmental movement. The league has branches in 17 regions of Ukraine.
