"Gurt," which means "team," was founded in October 1995 with the goal to assist in establishing a civil society in Ukraine through development of the third sector. Gurt provides consulting and training, organizes seminars for NGOs, and publishes the newsletter Nova Hromada. It reports that it helps hundreds of NGO clients annually in Kyiv and the surrounding regions of Zhytomyr, Chernihiv, Cherkassy, and Kirivohrad.In 1997, Gurt published two brochures, Creating and Running an NGO and The Third Sector in Ukraine and Supporting Organizations. Gurt is planning to publish a series of brochures on strategic planning, management, fundraising and legislation for NGOs.
Gurt's partners include the Foundation of International Civic Communications, AISEC, Ukrainian Youth Center, the Orpheus Civil Society Mutual Support Project, the European Foundation Center, the International Center for Not-for-Profit Law, VOICE International, the Conference of Ukrainian Students of Canada, Charities Aid Foundation-Russia, United Way of Belarus, and euroCom e.V. Gurt has five full-time staff and one full-time Peace Corps volunteer.
