Formally registered in 1996, CCC extends work begun in 1993 when it began to function as a training and research facility for its parent organization Counterpart International, based in Washington, D.C. At this time, CCC has 20 local professional trainers; it has held 400 workshops in Ukraine and trained more than 6,000 leaders of NGOs in Ukraine.

The main goals of CCC are to support the development of the third-sector in Ukraine. It maintains a database with detailed information on more that 2,000 Ukrainian NGOs. The database serves as a research tool tracking the growth of the Ukrainian third-sector. It has recently published the third edition of its NGO Handbook and Directory for Ukraine in English and Ukrainian.

Over the past three years, CCC has organized training courses and developed materials for project, NGO, and financial management. It has established an NGO training and technical assistance resource center and organized three five-day training workshops for women entrepreneurs in Belarus and a similar workshop in Georgia.

CCCLviv operates a microcredit program in partnership with a local bank and Soyuz Ukrainok (SU), a national Ukrainian woman's organization. Loans range in size from US$500 to $5,000, interest rates are 17 percent (in 1998), and terms range from three months to one year. All borrowers must be members of SU in good standing.
