Khmelnytsky leads Ukraine's regions in small-scale privatization. Though largely agricultural, the regional capital contains a number of manufacturing complexes. There are also a number of defense sector facilities seeking to convert to the production of consumer goods. The Economic Committee was created to assist this process.
