The Ecological Education School was established as an independent non-governmental youth organization in 1994 based on the geological section of the Republican Station of Young Tourists. The purpose of the organization is ecological education of the next generation. The School's programs include:
- collecting information on the present environmental situation in Tajikistan;
- developing teaching and research methods of ecological education for children and teenagers;
- increasing environmental awareness and stimulating ecological consciousness of the local population.
In 1994 the School received a grant from ISAR to compile a library of ecological literature. Since December 1995 Youth EcoCenter, the press group of the Ecological Education School, has been publishing an ecological bulletin, "Tabiat" (Nature). The bulletin, which is available in print and electronic form, is written and produced by teenagers and young adults.
