Yaroslavl Regional Society "Education and Culture" 

The mission of Education and Culture is to promote social and cultural progress in the Yaroslavl region through the development of new educational models and by assisting youth in their social growth and development. The main goals of the society are to help people adapt to the new system in Russia; to create a more civilized and democratic society through young people; and to promote the value of education and culture in society.

Main fields of activity include consulting in education and psychology, training, workshops, education and information distribution. The society organizes counseling activities for children and teenagers. More than 150 teachers and students take part in their workshops every year. During 1992-1997 the Society also developed contact with some schools and high schools in the Netherlands and organized educational and cultural trips for teachers and students. They also took part in the organization of an exhibition of children's drawings from Yaroslavl and Utrecht which took place in Yaroslavl Art Museum on January 1994 and at schools in Yaroslavl in 1995-1997.

One of the initiatives of E&C was opening the Student's Psychological and Educational Club. Students work with teenagers, young people and retired people. They organize workshops, classes and special activities for a variety of people, but especially for disadvantaged pupils and people in transition. Members of the Society also work with disadvantaged youth in summer camps. Along with outreach programs, E&C publishes educational materials. The society, together with the Department of Education of the Yaroslavl State Pedagogical University, published a collection of articles named "The Lessons of Komensky". E&C is also creating cultural and social guides for Russian youth in transitional society. The guides will include information about NGOs and other organizations along with theoretical and practical issues involved in grass-roots organization.
