This is the first archive in Russia specializing in women. It was founded in 1993 to produce annals about the modern women's movement–in order to create a documentary portrait of Russia's modern woman and to educate about the important role of women in Russian history.The development of the archives is being accomplished through several collections.
The main collections are:
- Regional Centers of Women's Activities;
- Stages of the Women's Independent Movement in Russia;
- Women's rights–Human rights;
- Women in the Media and Women's Press;
- Audio archives; and
- Photo archives.
