Russian Association of the Independent Regional Press

The association unites independent press organs from the entire Russian Federation. It is wholly independent of national, regional or local governments, political parties or professional unions, although it does work with them. It has 50 offices throughout the Russian Federation.

The Association's members have agreed upon the following projects as priorities:

• developing databanks for regional periodicals;
• A center for the study of privatization and market reforms,and regional programs for small business development;
• a communications business incubator, which can provide consultation on the basics of forming a publishing company�including writing business plans, locating investors, and learning about international standards and business processes, and computer technologies;
• training of qualified personnel, including program exchanges. Among the items that the association intends to publish are the following:
• A directory, Who's Who in the Regional Independent Press;
• resources devoted to individual professions within publishing, i.e. manag-ers, journalists, editors;
• informational material about the regional independent press' publishing activities, including directories and catalogues;
• a digest of the regional press.
