Leaders of five of Russia's most distinguished universities launched the Morozov Project in 1991 at the former estate of Savva Morozov, a famous Russian entrepreneur and philanthropist who died in 1905. The aim is to provide business training programs on a large scale throughout Russia, in order to create in "a short time period a class of new entrepreneurs with the skills and resources to manage the firms of Russia's future." The chief vehicle of the project is a network of 34 Business Training Centers (BTCs) and 15 additional support centers that teach basic business skills to aspiring entrepreneurs. Morozov staff claim that the BTCs and other elements of the Projecte.g., the Morozov Business Development Fundhave led to the creation of more than 130,000 new jobs over the four years of its existence. The project is funded by USAID.
