Ecojuris, founded in 1991, claims to be Russia's first public-interest environmental law firm. With a staff of eight attorneys, Ecojuris: analyzes and prepares recommendations on environmental laws and regulations; maintains a database of environmental legislation; consults with businesses and foreign investors on potential violations of environmental and land use laws; and conducts litigation. It has brought a number of cases against the Ministry of Defense on behalf of soldiers' who have suffered from military experiments with nuclear and chemical weapons. In cooperation with the U.S.-based Natural Resources Defense Council, Ecojuris published a Russian-language Citizens' Guide, entitled Environmental Protection: Towards Legal Actions by Russian Citizens.
