The center consists of a group of teachers who serve as coordinators of a telecommunications-based educational program "Telecommunication To Schools," supported by the Russian Academy of Education. Since 1988 the center has been developing relationships with teachers throughout the former USSR involved in new information technologies. CONTACT has developed a course and educational software kit for teachers who are novices in the world of telecommunications. The course covers all basic technical questions and includes recommendations on classroom applications.CONTACT has worked with Mark Braunlich's TASIC (Teacher And Student International Communication) project and welcomes contacts with American educators who have experience in developing telecommunications training courses for teachers. CONTACT has developed a distance education course using e-mail, titled "Telecommunications in Education," for its regional coordinators. They are also planning to develop a distance learning course for children and adults interested in learning English on their own, using the Internet.
