Andrei Sakharov Foundation

The foundation is also known as the Public Commission for the Preservation of the Legacy of Academician A. D. Sakharov. It oversees several organizations dedicated to furthering the work and memory of Andrei Sakharov, one of the Soviet Union's most prominent scientists and respected dissidents. The foundation maintains the Sakharov Archives in Moscow, which house thousands of documents related to Sakharov's life and human rights activities. It also operates the Andrei Sakharov Museum and Community Center.

The museum and community center was opened in 1996 with the goal of "educating the next generation of Russians about the USSR's totalitarian past" and serving as a resource for Russia's human and civil rights movements. It offers a research facility for historians and human rights activists, educational programs for children, and meeting space for non-governmental groups. It also frequently hosts lectures, concerts, and roundtable discussions related to the work of Sakharov and current human rights issues in Russia.
