Green World was founded in August 1988 as an environmental association in the city of Sosnovy Bor, located on the Gulf of Finland, 80 km to the west of St. Petersburg. It works to protect the marine ecosystem of the Baltic Sea region by disseminating information on the ecosystem and its environmental problems and lobbying for legal measures to save the Gulf of Finland coastline.Green World monitors several environmental hazards in the Baltic Sea area, including a nuclear waste site in Sosnovy Bor. It also publishes the bulletins Green World Baltic News and Nuclear News from Northwest Russia. It plans to produce an analytical publication, The Baltic Region�Our Habitat. All publications are available in Russian and English.
