On
November 8, 2000, the first Center for Business Ethics (CBE) in Russia was
officially registered in St. Petersburg. Bronze Lion 000, the Ethics Resource Center and
Sovereign Ventures, Inc. joined together to assist in the foundation of the St.
Petersburg Center for Business Ethics (the Center) as the next step in the
private-sector effort to promote transparency in Russia. The development of this
center was partially funded by the United States Agency for International
Development (USAID) through the Eurasia Foundation.
The Center supports the signatory companies to conceive and implement the corporate codes of conduct required by the Declaration, determine and develop the infrastructure needed to support them, and create the necessary communications and training materials that will drive a real and lasting behavior change within businesses, organizations, industries and the region. The Center also serves the business community as an educator and advocate for business ethics and continues to recruit more signatories.
Long term, the Center intends to serve as a model for replication in other regions of Russia and the New Independent States.
