Alexandra works to defend women's civil, economic, and cultural rights. It provides legal assistance to women who have been victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. Founded in 1995, the group conducted a two-year project to analyze the issues of domestic and sexual violence and devised a strategy for meeting the needs of abused women. Lawyers, psychologists, and social workers participated in the project.

Alexandra now runs a crisis hot-line for women, and assists abused women in court and in dealings with the police. Training programs for representatives of law enforcement agencies are also offered, and the group publishes pamphlets on legal rights for abused women. It also recruits and trains volunteers to work on the hotline and assist women in courts.
