Siberian Informational Medical Association

For the medical community of Novosibirsk one of the greatest obstacles to providing modern medical care has been the difficulty in receiving up-to-date information through journals and computer networks. SIMA's goal is to monitor and catalogue available online medical information, join online discussion groups and establish contact between various medical research projects in Siberia with interested parties in the West.

SIMA was founded in 1994 by doctors Sergei Vitjasev and Piotr Larionov to take advantage of the vast amount of information currently available on the Internet. SIMA provides free access to the latest medical information to local doctors, hospitals and research institutes. In addition it serves as an outlet for medical researchers in the region to share information concerning medical and technological projects in development in Siberia.

The organizing committee of SIMA consists of eight people working on a volunteer basis. With limited resources they have obtained equipment, a location for the center, and access to electronic mail (through the Protei Company). However, in order for the center to operate effectively and achieve the goals they have established they seek sources of both financial and information support. SIMA would appreciate hearing from any organization with funds or information for its work. In response to any inquiry they will provide a full project proposal.
