The Initiatives Support Center has emerged from the NET Alumni Center, which is a part of the NIS Exchanges and Training Project funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The Center seeks "to foster information exchange, facilitate training, and provide a variety of resources and services to government, business, non-governmental organizations, and individuals in order to support and promote market economy and democratic reforms in Kyrgyzstan." Functions of the Center include:
- establishing and promoting informational exchange among NET Project Alumni, their colleagues in the US and other US and local organizations;
- providing important resources for the Alumni by continuing their educational process in the form of lectures, workshops, and seminars;
- providing the physical office space, computer network, Internet access, and conference room facilities as a way of continuing the Alumni's educational process and giving them an opportunity to implement the new ideas and methods obtained in the course of their training in the US.
Right now, the Center is looking for new partners and ways to become self-sustainable in order to continue working after the USAID grant expires.
