Internews Network, Inc. was founded in 1982 to "support the independent broadcast media in the former Soviet Union and other parts of the world through training programs and equipment grants." The organization now has 13 affiliates in Europe, the former Soviet Union, Middle East and Africa, each an independent NGO. Together they are known as Internews International.
