Since 1990, Green Salvation (GS) has been advocating environmental protection in Kazakstan. It lobbies the government for new legislation and compliance with existing laws. The group also participates regularly in a parliamentary working group on environmental issues.

GS has held summer ecological education camps for schoolchildren in the mountains of the Almaty area since 1995. Members also teach at a variety of public and private institutions, including primary and secondary schools and universities. In addition, the group sponsors environmental education training workshops for teachers, and seminars on sustainable development for members of nonprofit organizations and government. Staff incorporate film, video and photographic media to their teaching techniques.

GS produces two regular publications: EcoDiary presents environmental news and issues to the media and NGOs throughout the Kazakstan on a quarterly basis. Vestnik is a series of booklets that offer analysis on a broader range of issues, including sustainable development, environmental education, and human rights.

Since 1995, GS has contributed regularly to Ecostan News, an Internet publication addressing social and environmental issues of Central Asia. It maintains archives of official documents and laws concerning environmental protection in Kazakstan, as well as a library of photographs and videotapes used to document violation of environmental laws and bolster lobbying efforts.

GS has been active in a number of public campaigns to promote protected lands, including the creation in 1996 of the Zailisky Alatau National Park, a 165,000 hectare nature reserve in the mountains south of Almaty.
