The Center for Conflict Management was registered in July 1995 as a local public association. It was the first organization of its kind in Kazakstan and in Central Asia in general. CCM is a non-profit, non-governmental organization. Its main goal is to make a contribution towards preventing social and ethnic conflicts in Kazakhstan, towards peace-making and creating an atmosphere of stability and predictability as the transition to a free market economy and democratic civil society continues. The Center unites scholars, professors of universities, students, specialists in different fields of studies and other people, interested in conflict issues.

The philosophy of the Center is based on the idea that while the world community spends much money for conflict resolving and peacekeeping, we believe in PREVENTION OF CONFLICTS, saving millions of dollars and, more importantly, saving human lives. Kazakhstan is an "ideal candidate" for such programme of early warning of conflicts. Our country is in a very difficult socioeconomic and ethnopolitical situation, but it has all opportunities to overcome the crisis and to prevent conflicts.

TO ACHIEVE THESE GOALS WE PROPOSE TO:

THE CCM ACTIVITIES AND INITIATIVES FOR 1995-97 years:

Moreover, the Center for Conflict Management in coordination with the colleagues from Russia (Moscow School of Human Rights) and Great Britain (the Center of Human Rights of the University of Essex) initiated the Project "Human Rights Education in Kazakhstan and Russian Federation" - 1997-1998.

FUTURE PERSPECTIVES:

The Center for Conflict Management in Kazakhstan is willing to co-operate with organizations interested in related issues and is seeking financial support from different Funds and Endowments.
