Multiple Assistance for Georgia

MAG was established in May 1994 to provide humanitarian assistance and support the development of Georgia's civil society. MAG seeks to bridge the gap between providing relief assistance and the actual development of an indigenous NGO community capable of responding to societal needs. MAG has worked in the health sector, supporting programs in maternal and child health, AIDS awareness, education and prevention, and development of a local pharmaceutical industry. MAG works with local NGOs and community groups, governmental organizations, UN agencies, and international NGOs.

Along with all their work in the NGO community, MAG also focuses on the problems of migration in the region. One of their primary goals is to strengthen and promote the self-development of the NGO Migration sector throughout the Caucasus. The International Organization for Migration's Regional Office for the Caucasus has established the "Regional Program for Migration-Sector National NGO Development". This program will significantly assist in the strengthening and self-development of the region's migration-sector National NGOs. MAG will work in collaboration with key national NGOs in each of other TransCaucasus countries: the Armenian Sociological Association (ASA) in Armenia and Hayat in Azerbaijan. The program will promote and enhance regional dialogue and planning in the migration-sector among national NGOs in each country, and will develop the ability of these and other national NGOs to address a number of migration concerns

MAG's Local Activities:

• Development of NGO sector in Georgia;
• Carrying out education programs for local NGOs on nonprofit management fundraising;
• Rendering free consulting assistance to grassroots NGOs;
• Increasing the level of coordination among local NGOs;
• Anti-AIDS preventive-educational activities
• Emergency Medical Assistance Project aimed to provide free medication to needy population in Tbilisi, and to strengthen the local pharmaceutical company, funded by Stichting Vluchteling (SV)
• Economic seminars with Academy for Educational Development (AED)

MAG's International Activities:

• On-going participation in the International Organization for Migration's Regional Program for Migration-Sector National NGO Development program
• Participated in CIVICUS' First World Assembly of World Alliance for Citizen participation (Mexico city)
• Participated in UNHCR/Inter-Agency Mission From Tbilisi to Armenia
• Meeting with Non-Governmental Organization prior to the 46th Session of the UNHCR's Executive Committee (Geneva)
• Participated as an observer to the 46th Session of UNHCR's executive Committee (Geneva)
• Participation in the Third Annual National Leadership Forum, hosted by National Center for Nonprofit Boards (Washington DC)
• CIS conference in Geneva
• CIS conference follow-ups in Armenia, Georgia, Abkhazia, South Osetia.
