Georgian Disabled Women's International Association was established in 1998 with the goals of improving the living conditions of disabled women and their ability to conduct independent activities, monitoring the disabled women's living conditions, assessing their social needs, protecting their rights, increasing their involvement in social life, opening job opportunities for disabled women, promoting issues concerning disabled women through local media and locating the right ways and methods of solving their problems.

Presently, the following departments are functioning at the NGO: Monitoring department, Training department, Public Relations Service, Projects Design service, Department of Psychological Care, Job opportunities Department, Department for the Rehabilitation of Creative Skills and the Department of International Collaborations. The strategy of Georgian Disabled Women's International Association includes raising public awareness of disabled women's most critical problems and challenges with the help of local media sources; setting up a strong network with local governmental and non-governmental organizations, and with similar NGOs abroad, participating in exchange programs, training-seminars; joint events; working out short- and long-term joint projects in cooperation with other issue oriented NGOs; creating a database of disabled women in Georgia; and assessing the needs and problems of disabled women and systematizing the obtained material.

The NGO has issued and distributed among local NGOs four brochures from the cycle "Rights and Benefits of Disables in Georgia". Recently, with the financial support of Oxfam, the association implemented the project entitled: "Disabled Women Help Disabled Women", and almost simultaneously Open Society Georgia Foundation financed the Association's project aiming to set up consultation-information centers in three regions of Georgia (Kaheti, Imereti and Kartly). During the implementation period some initiative groups and NGOs from other regions (Gori,Ozurgeti, Tsinandali, Tsalendzikha and Batumi) joined the project.
